5 on Friday!

It's Friday, y'all! Not only that, but it's the Friday before vacation for me. :) Here's a random, but totally acceptable, collection of thoughts because I'm linking up with Natasha for Five on Friday!

One | Vacation! Tomorrow morning, Brian and I are leaving for Emerald Isle, North Carolina for a glorious week-long stay with (most of) my family! I have big plans that include sleeping in, relaxing and reading on the beach, eating delicious food without thinking about calories, not checking my work email once, and generally doing nothing productive at all! It's funny that a beach location with (almost) nothing to do would have sounded dreadful to me as a kid, but now it sounds pretty close to paradise. Bring it on!

Two | Beach Reads! On that note, I'm looking for some good beach reads to occupy my time while I lounge next week. I recently finished Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (with lots of tears!) and will be wrapping up the sequel, Fly Away, shortly. With how busy I've been at work, vacation is really the only time I have to get lost in a good book, so I'm happily taking suggestions of recent favorites! I think I'll definitely be adding The Cuckoo's Calling by "Robert Gabraith" to my list. Although it's not my typical genre, I can't resist the allure of the author. ;)

Three | Savannah. While nothing is official yet (and with the Army, I'll believe it when I see it), it looks like we'll probably be moving before the end of the year. Brian and I have both really come to love this town, and the thought of leaving is definitely depressing. The impending move, though, has really inspired us to get out and enjoy everything Savannah has to offer. This sounds weird, but one of my favorite things is the way the sunsets reflect on the calm, still water. We have so much love for this place and I know we will miss it tremendously when we leave.

Four | Chips and Salsa. There isn't much I dislike about our favorite Mexican restaurant in town; they have delicious (and strong!) margaritas, amaaaazing chimichangas and beans, and pretty low prices - Brian and I can usually leave having spent less than $20! But my favorite part by far is the chips and salsa. I was thrilled to find that Pioneer Woman's recipe for Restaurant Style Salsa is really similar! I may never buy a jar of the fake stuff again. Brian loves it so much that he helped me make three huge batches this week to take for our trip to the beach. Chips, salsa, and margs for all!

(her picture, not mine!)
Five | Fitness Blender! I have gone through many phases with my fitness goals over the past 10 years or so (some healthy, and some not-as-much), but I am finally at a point where I can acknowledge that having a purely aesthetic goal is a poor focus. Daniel and Kelli at Fitness Blender have been a big part of my renewed outlook. It has been so nice to push myself and feel proud of what my body can do, make healthy choices about eating real, unprocessed food but not beating myself up over an indulgence here and there, acknowledge my progress and successes, and develop a healthier and balanced outlook on all things health and fitness. I just finished my seventh week of one of their eight week programs with an epic 1000 calorie workout (my third one!) and felt SO accomplished when I was done, remembering how far I've come. (And just a note...Daniel and Kelli have no idea who I am; I am just a happy consumer of their free workout videos and wanted to share the love!)

Happy weekend - have a wonderful one!

I've vacationed in Emerald Isle several times. *Love* that city. I highly recommend you go banana boating, especially if you've never been and can go as a group. It's stupid fun.

Just found your blog through the link up and wanted to thank you for showing me the Daily Mile widget! It looks pretty pitiful on mine with only 2 miles but it's a start. Enjoy your books, I love KH's books, especially in the summer!
