One of the reasons Brian decided to choose Georgia for his first post is his affinity for palm trees. So, of course, we had to put one in front of our house! I also made a little Pinterest inspired wreath for our front door.
When you first walk in, there is a small entryway and half bath. I absolutely love our entry table because it has so many drawers! We have tried to be deliberate in developing ways to keep our house organized and clutter-free; it has definitely helped us in this venture! We always have somewhere to put and sort our mail, when we pick it up or have something to send out. The pot on the table is a "catch all" for our keys...it helps me to know where they are and spend less time running around looking for them. :)
Our storage bench is the perfect place to throw our shoes when we come in.
Our downstairs bathroom has a bit of a lighthouse theme, which is fitting considering where we became husband and wife. :)
Brian actually signed the lease for our house before I ever saw it in person. I trusted him, but I still asked him to send lots of pictures! I was so excited about the open floor plan, even though it was a bit of a challenge to figure out how to furnish. When you walk in from the entry, you can see the living room, eating area, and breakfast bar.
Our living room is home to the comfiest couches ever, tables with cracked glass accents...
...a mini wall collage using shelves, and the pretty coasters I made (also Pinterest inspired!) :)
I spend a lot of time in our kitchen, which I love! When we do buy a house, it will have a lot to live up to. I love cooking here!
The top of the cabinets is home to a personalized plate my mom's friends gave me for my bridal shower and some pretty cake stands. And the top of the stove is where I keep my recipe box and some mini Le Creusets that Brian's mom put in my stocking last Christmas. Aren't they cute?!
My favorite bridal shower gift was probably our Keurig, which I definitely put to good use! Next to it are small containers of sugar and Splenda so I have everything I need in the morning before I've had my daily dose of caffeine. We have been meal planning, so there is an area on the side of our fridge (since the front isn't magnetic...dumb!) where I can see what we have planned to eat for the week and keep a running list of what we need next time we go to the store.
Brian and I rotate between eating at our kitchen table (which was one of my wedding presents from him and a really cool story I should get around to sharing!) and at the breakfast bar.
Outside the sliding door, we have a little patio where Brian grills for us! We will hopefully get more use out of it now that the weather is cooling off; we might actually be able to stand eating dinner or using the fire pit out there!
Upstairs, we have a master bedroom, guest room, laundry "closet," and third bedroom that is kind of serving as a home office/lounge area. We knew we needed enough space for people to come visit us here, and so far it has worked out well!
The picture frames above the bed in our guest room hold the pictures from our wedding photo booth! We thought people would get a kick out of seeing them when they came to visit. :) Across the hallway from the guest room is the guest bathroom.
The third bedroom is definitely the room that still needs the most work, but it serves its purpose!
Have I mentioned how many cute ideas I get from Pinterest?
If I had let him, Brian would have decorated every room in our house in a palm tree theme. Our master bedroom was not the place I finally relented, but I think he likes what we finally settled on almost as much. I can't wait to take this bedroom set to a place where we can paint the walls; I think it would look so pretty in a gray room!
The other side of the room is home to the feature that sold this house to me; a huge walk-in closet! When Brian texted me a picture of it, I told him to go ahead and sign the lease without me. :)
Our master bathroom was the place I finally let Brian let loose with his palm tree obsession. Also, I now understand why double sinks are so sought-after.
So, that's our house! It has been so much fun decorating with Brian and figuring out how to put our mark on the place we'll be living for the next couple of years. It's easy for us to get caught up in looking towards the future, when we'll be able to buy a house, paint the walls, have a big backyard for a dog, and settle down for good. But we are so thankful and proud to have a cute and comfortable little space to call our own for now. :)
