While I was at Boordy this weekend, I found out that one of the rooms at the vineyard was used during the filming of Runaway Bride. The entire movie was filmed at various locations in Maryland (Richard Gere's character remarks that it's a lot like 'Mayberry' when he arrives in the fictional town of Hale, MD), but the rehearsal dinner that Julia Roberts' character holds prior to one of her weddings was actually shot in the room that we were hanging out in!
The Hawaiian luau scene in the "barn" before Maggie is set to marry Coach Bob (the one and only Elliot Stabler...I mean, Christopher Meloni) is one of my favorite in the movie, and I had no idea that was where it was filmed! They actually covered the stone walls with wood for the movie; Boordy used the wood to build a couple of wine stands that were elsewhere in the building after the movie wrapped.
If you want to see this scene in the movie trailer, it is around 1:45!
While we were talking about this cool fact about Boordy, I also learned that scenes in Tuck Everlasting were filmed at the Falling Branch area of Rocks State Park. I have never seen the movie, but it doesn't surprise me that they picked this beautiful backdrop!
Falling Branch is one of the best places to go to swim in the summer, and Brian and I went there last Labor Day weekend! It is really one of the hidden gems around here, and I'm always hesitant to even post about it. :)
Now that I know Falling Branch makes its feature film debut in Tuck Everlasting, I really want to see it. Especially after watching the trailer! Have any of you guys seen it? (You can see the falls at 1:25.)
It's always fun to learn new things about the places that you love! What about you guys...have your local landmarks made appearances in any movies??

SC has been featured in a good amount of movies, as well! The more recent ones are The Notebook, Radio, and Leatherheads. There are several plantation homes in Charleston, S.C (about 3 hours from where I grew up) that have been used in countless movies, one of which being The Notebook. Radio (with Cuba Gooding Jr) was filmed in Anderson, S.C. (about 30+ minutes from my hometown) where the story takes place. Some of the scenes in Leatherheads take place in the historic Westin Poinsett hotel (where Scott and I spent our vow renewal night) in my hometown. I always loving hearing about parts of movies being filmed in places that you grew up visiting!
Good to know! I'm visiting Maryland to see my little brother's graduation from the Naval Academy in May, and now I know where some sites are! Thanks!
Tuck Everlasting is a reeeally good movie, super cute, some parts make ya wanna gag but it adds in to the cute factor. This view is of course based on when I saw it when it first came out in like 1999 (ok exaggeration but still) so hopefully it's still good as an adult lol.
I love watching Runaway Bribe because of the local landmarks! The scene where the car breaks down and they have to hop through the cornfield was filmed right behind my elementary school! Apparently Blair Witch Project (or BWP 2) was filmed around there as well.
My dad was telling me that recently a Renee Zellweger movie was filmed in MD, but it hasn't come out yet.
Very cool! You guys are too cute :)
That is really neat! I love the rustic look of that bar. More and more movies are starting to be filmed in Boston which I'm LOVING! :) They are building a huge hollywood-like movie studio around here so hopefully many more will start being produced in my neck of the woods!
I love visiting filming locations! The resort where they filmed Dirty Dancing is 30 mintues from where I went to college, so that's always fun to visit.
I've seen "Tuck Everlasting" It's cute in a cheesy way. But worth watching.
