Some Phi Mu Fun

This past week/weekend included a lot of time with my sorority sisters, which is always fun! On Wednesday night, the chapter hosted a Vera Bradley Bingo to raise money for our national philanthropy, the Children's Miracle Network.

I got out of class just in time to play the last half of the games, and even though I didn't win any pretty bags, the event raised over $2,000 for CMN! My mom was the big winner at our table when they pulled her ticket for the 50/50 raffle...it was her birthday, so I think that's where her luck came from. :)

On Sunday night, the chapter pinned our six new members, or Phis. Pinning is the beginning of the formal pledge period for the new girls, and their families and friends can come to see them take their first step into Greek life. My pinning was now a full five years ago, which makes me feel quite old.

Since I've been in grad school and an alum of Phi Mu, I've continued to try to make time to support the chapter and be at any events I could; it took me a while to learn how to juggle all of these various commitments, but I finally feel like I have a hold on my schedule, and even have some time for friends and for myself.

About a week ago, the current President of the chapter e-mailed me and asked if I would be interested in coming onto the Advisory Council. After a little bit of consideration, I decided that it's something I want to do, so I'll now be serving as the Chapter Development Advisor for my collegiate chapter! I will be working with the vice president to help plan fun activities for our weekly chapter meetings. I am going to be working with one of my favorite people, who just so happens to be turning 21 today! (...this is from some Halloween celebration or another, and not how we usually dress. ;))

I'm excited to get started and so happy to have a little bit more Phi Mu in my life again. :)

Love it, that's so awesome Lauren! I have always been intrigued by sorority life, since I never formally went to college. It looks like fun and a great way to make new friends. That's nice of you to take on a big role within your chapter.

It's awesome to hear how involved with your sorority you're staying even after graduating. I hope I can do that next year as well. The Vera Bradley thing sounds like an amazing fundraiser. I'd love to hear more about how you guys actually did it!
