Q&A Part III: The Story of Me and B :)

I decided to separate out these questions, because I had a feeling I would want to go on and on. That, and I had been wanting to share the story of how B and I met. So, here are the answers to a couple of questions about me and my love with some completely random and gratuitous pictures thrown in as well. :)

Ruby @ By Ruby asked...

How did you and B meet?

B and I met through a mutual friend in the last days of December 2007. The first night I laid eyes on him was at a bar in town, and while I thought he was cute, he didn't talk to me much, if at all (he later confided in me that he assumed I was a 'typical sorority girl' so he wasn't exactly interested off the bat).

The next night, we were at the same party in the middle of nowhere (in editing this story for correctness, B told me the only reason he had gone to the party was because he knew I would be there...I had no idea). I still thought he was cute, and he still really didn't seem interested in talking to me. He seemed to be avoiding talking to me, if anything!

I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but as we were watching a couple of people play Wii Tennis, he turned to me and started up a conversation. I assumed it was because I was the only one standing there and there was no one else to talk to. But for the rest of the night, we sat next to each other, and at one point he held my hand. I was utterly confused, to be honest. One second, he was ignoring me; the next, he was typing sweet messages to me on his brand new iPhone and grabbing my hand. I know now that's just because B is a little awkward, and of course I'm so cool, calm, and collected all the time that I was probably intimidating (Haha, yeah right...we're both sufficiently awkward, and that is why our beginning is as well).

Anyway, that night B and I talked a lot, and he finally kissed me. He kissed me again goodbye in the morning when he left (which I remember being like, wow...he kissed me goodbye! even though it was probably 5 in the morning). I didn't think to ask B why he was leaving so early, but I was on Cloud 9 and had all the nervous feelings that come with having a new crush. So, when my phone rang a little past noon that same day and it was a number I didn't recognize, I was like ohmygoshwhatdoIdo?!

(B laughed here when he was reading this through, because he was really nervous and saw me as just too cool for school...which is funny, because I was super nervous and thought he was the cool one. It's funny to look back on.)

I answered the phone and tried to sound as calm and level-headed as possible (while secretly freaking out on the inside). B explained that he had Ravens tickets for that night, and was wondering if I would want to go with him. Now, I was stoked that he had actually called, and not even 12 hours after we had said goodbye, and I really wanted to say yes. But, sadly, I already had plans with my family for that night and I knew that I wouldn't be able to get out of them. When I (very politely) declined and told B that I had other obligations, he muttered something and then quickly said, "Oh okay, well I've gotta go. Talk to you later." Then, he hung up.

After hearing the click, I just looked at my phone thinking...well, I guess that's not going anywhere. Totally bummed.

(B still bugs me about the fact that I turned him down to go to a Ravens game, and he didn't end up going because couldn't find anyone else to go.)

As it turns out, when he called me,  B was hunting in a goose blind with his uncle, who had offered him the football tickets, and he hung up quickly because he didn't want me to hear the goose calls and gunshots as a flock of geese were flying in. He also thought that, while I seemed interested the night before, I must have turned him down because I wasn't interested in pursuing anything with him. Having to hang out with my family was obviously some kind of an excuse, so his ego was bruised and he hung up quickly.

And I guess that's where our story would have ended, but for some reason, even though I had "turned him down," B called me back when he was done hunting (although he didn't explain to me why he got off the phone so quickly until over a year later), and we made plans to meet up after I was done with my family obligations. We went on a date to DuClaw (and he opened my car door for me!) and watched the football game on T.V. (which was a great substitute for actually being there, B would like to add sarcastically). He spent New Year's out of town, but when he came back, he surprised me and flew me on an airplane.  And the rest of the story, as they say, is history.

Well, I guess not exactly history. He invited me to a ball, we talked a ton on the phone while he was away at school, and we saw each other when we could. With him being far away, though, it was hard to tell where we were going.

In true "us" style, we casually and awkwardly dated and got to know each other better for a while before we started officially dating on July 2nd, 2008. B "asked me out" while we were laying on the living room floor in his house. But that's another funny story for a different day.

Courtney @ Starting Out asked...

Have you and your boyfriend talked about marriage and, if so, what is your time line?

B and I have luckily always been on the same page on this one; we knew it was important (for us) to take our time and really get to know each other in the beginning of our relationship, and then we would take it from there before we made any big moves. We have discussed marriage, but are more focused now on growing together in positive ways every day. With our energy in the present rather than the future, we are free to really get to know one another in every way. We both have known for a little while that this is it for us, but we aren't really in any kind of hurry. We're together, we're happy, and we're having a whole lot of fun

That said, B graduates in May 2010 (!!) and then has a couple of months of training in different places around the country before he will be at his permanent post (which he will pick this coming March). I'll be in graduate school pursuing my Masters until May of 2011. After I graduate, I would hopefully join him where he is posted. So, if all goes according to plan (which, as we are both very aware, doesn't always happen), we would like to get married around when I finish grad school.

Laura @ Our Crazy Adventure asked...

What is your idea of a perfect date?

I always joke that, after whisking me away on an airplane just to go out to dinner, B has already taken me on the best possible date.

And while that is definitely the coolest date I have ever been on, it means a lot more to me when B and I get to have the kinds of dates we go on now. My favorite dates are ones that involve being outside and doing something fun together, but I also really like going out to dinner and/or a movie and then just lounging around and goofing off together. I'm not picky though, because any time we get together is really special.

And that's the story of me and B...which has now made me a little sentimental. I sure do love the heck out of him. Thanks again to everyone who asked me a question for my Q&A!

Just so you know, this makes me really nostalgic. Do you remember we HAD to go to the mall after jenn's party and we were in sweatpants... what were we looking for, I don't even remember.

Before this I was looking at the "gifts" on facebook b/c Jonny asked what they were (he hasn't seen Juno yet) anywhere, a bunch were from you and one said to stop calling you a pea head.

That being said... "I've got peas on my head, but don't call me a pea head."

That is all. =)
