Homecoming Football Weekend

This weekend was Army's Homecoming, so I went up to WP for the game and to spend time with B. On Friday, we went to a cookout that his company was hosting, and we ate burgers and had a couple of beer drinks with his friends before heading over to see Trace Adkins perform at Ike Hall!

When we got to the concert, I was shocked...B had said we were pretty close, but that was an understatement! I think if Trace Adkins had wiped away his sweat, it might have gotten on me. (Okay, so that's a gross way to put it...but I'm weird and it's true. It's probably the closest I'll ever be to someone famous.)

It was an amazing concert! Trace Adkins has such a good voice, and he was just really humble and happy to be at WP performing for the cadets. A lot of his songs were so much fun (like "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk," of course). He also sang a couple of his slower songs: "Arlington," "You're Gonna Miss This," and "'Til The Last Shot's Fired" with the WP Glee Club, which was his last song and so amazingly touching. It just kind of hit home where most of these kids (and they are kids) are going to be in a matter of months and the reality of what they'll be doing. Here are a couple of videos from the concert, although I kept getting yelled at about having my camera. Whatever, Trace Adkins was like ten feet away from me and I was going to use my camera, okay?!

We were exhausted after the concert, but we stopped by the Firstie Club to see if maybe Trace Adkins had gone there to hang out after the concert (he hadn't, sadly), and then we headed back to the hotel to hit the hay.

On Saturday, we got up early and headed back for the Homecoming football game against Tulane. It was a dreary day, but the rain held off for the most part. Trace Adkins stuck around from the concert the night before and performed the National Anthem with the Glee Club, which was very neat.

The football game itself was exciting. Really exciting...with a really sad ending. Army lost to Tulane 17-16 in the last seconds of the game, when the Army kicker missed a game-winning field goal. So upsetting.

After the game, B and I went to the Palisades Mall (which is probably close to being one of the biggest malls in history). We went to dinner at Chevy's (one of my favorites), and then B took me to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I loved that book when I was a kid, and although the movie was a lot different, I thought it was adorable and super funny!

On Sunday, we slept in and had a lazy morning (which ended with B sneaking downstairs and stealing the remainder of the breakfast goodies from the complementary breakfast and bringing them back to our room so we could have breakfast in bed). Because the Ravens game was on at 1, we decided to find somewhere in the area that would have it on TV. CBS was showing some dumb rodeo in New York instead of the game, but we went to this very cool sports museum and bar called The Stadium. Because they had satellite TV, they were showing all of the football games!

We hung out for a while at The Stadium watching the game and eating delicious bar food, and finished listening to the game on the radio while we drove back towards WP. When the game was over (with another sad ending), we attempted to delay my leaving a bit more by going to Bear Mountain State Park (like we've done before), where there is a tall lookout tower with an amazing view of Manhattan.

After spending some time at the park, it was time to take B back to school and, sadly, head home. Due to my new discovery of books on tape, the drive back went by quickly.

So, although it involved a couple of heartbreaking football losses (for both the Army team and the Ravens...) and it went by entirely too quickly, it was still a weekend full of lots of fun. Hope your weekends were splendid as well! :)

I laughed at your sweat comparison to how close you were to the stage... that's exactly how I would have put it! lol
